The Floyd County Commission is expected to approve a resolution to call for a special election to fill the unexpired term of Larry Maxey when it meets Tuesday.

Maxey passed away on November 23 and his post-four seat is not up for re-election until 2026.

The county will also consider participation in a $2 million Tax Allocation District application for a 100-plus-room Home2 Suites at 1024 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

Under TAD financing, increased taxes from improvements to the site would be funneled back into the project for a set period of time.

The application was approved by a 4-1 vote by the Rome-Floyd County Redevelopment Agency.

Commissioners will also consider a resolution to extend the moratorium on the issuance of permits for new or expanded commercial poultry and concentrated animal feeding operations to allow time for input from the agricultural community on amendments to large commercial poultry and animal feeding operations.

Six rezoning requests are also slated for a public hearing and vote, all come from the planning commission with recommendations to approve.

The commission meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Floyd County Administration Building on East Fourth Avenue.

The caucus will start at 3:30 p.m.
