The Rome Christmas Parade is coming up on Tuesday.

Thousands will line Broad Street to watch the parade which will take its traditional route from First Avenue up to the Rome City Auditorium, where Santa Claus will flip the switch to light Rome’s Christmas Tree.

However, there is one change this year, the start time, which will be at 7 p.m. instead of 6:30 p.m. as it has been in years past.

Kim Wright with the Rome Christmas Parade Committee explained the change.

“As a mom who had to get my kids to the parade, and as a cheer coach who had to get it all organized and the kids to the parade, I realize it’s too quick to have the roads closed at 5:30,” she said. “You get off work at 5 p.m. and you have to go to your child’s school, pick them up, and get them back to the parade. It was too much, so we’re closing the roads at 6 p.m. instead. It’ll be a little bit of a late night, but it’ll also help people, I hope, with the traffic in all of that.”

Jeff and Mary Margete Mauer are the grand marshals for this year’s parade.

The theme is “A Christmas Carol.”
