Two fatal crashes in Chattooga County on Thursday

The Georgia State Patrol Post 38 in Rome released information on the two fatal wrecks in Chattooga County on Thursday afternoon.

According to state troopers, at 3:30 PM, they received reports of a head-on collision involving two vehicles on Highway 27 near Sloppy Floyd Lake Road. The investigation revealed that a 2005 Pontiac G6 was heading south when it crossed the center line and collided with a 2011 BMW 528 traveling north. A female passenger in the Pontiac was declared dead after being taken to a Rome hospital. The female driver of the BMW suffered serious injuries and was also transported to a hospital, where her unborn child was pronounced dead following emergency surgery. The name of the deceased passenger will be released after notifying the family. The Georgia State Patrol SCRT-A is involved in the investigation.

At 3:45 PM, troopers were alerted to a single-vehicle accident on Georgia 48 near Ridgecrest Drive. The investigation found that a 1995 Chevrolet K1500 was traveling east and lost control while navigating a curve. The truck veered off the road, hit a guardrail, and overturned, resulting in the driver being ejected. The driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to Atrium Chattooga Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old John Edward Marmet from Summerville.

Both fatal accidents remain under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
