On Sunday night, (Jan 28, 2024) at approximately 11:50 pm deputies were dispatched to Ballenger Road in the Gore area regarding a subject that had been stabbed.

They learned that the aggressor, the victim’s stepson, had left the scene on foot. Deputies arrived and found the victim with a large knife, which had been pushed in all the way to the handle, still in the victim’s neck. EMS arrived and began to treat and transport the victim to an area hospital.

Deputies and Investigators, along with Sheriff Mark Schrader and Chief Deputy Kevin Woods, assembled a perimeter around the area and Hays State Prison K-9 unit arrived to assist in tracking the suspect. The K-9 unit was able to follow a track that led north from the victim’s residence to another residence. While checking the area deputies noticed a vehicle coming out of a driveway several hundred yards north of where they were. Deputy Ellenburg responded and intercepted the vehicle before it could make it onto the roadway and found that it contained the suspect. The suspect had found the truck parked near a workshop that had the keys in it and took the truck to flee the area.

The suspect, 35-year-old Christopher Martin Roberson, was taken into custody without further incident. Roberson was charged with aggravated assault FVA, burglary 2nd degree, theft by taking, and criminal trespass.

Sheriff Mark Schrader said, “I would like to thank each Deputy and Investigator that responded for their quick actions in securing the scene and the area which resulted in the quick arrest of the suspect”.

Sheriff Schrader told WZQZ News Tuesday morning that at last check, the victim was in stable condition.
