Labor market remains strong locally

The Rome area gained 1,100 jobs from December of 2022 to December of 2023, according to the latest numbers from the Georgia Department of Labor.

Rome ended the year with employment at 45,400, up from 44,300 the previous year.

The number of jobs was up by 100 from November to December.

The labor department also reports that first-time claims for unemployment insurance fell from 553 to 379 from November to December. That is also 176 fewer claims than were filed in December of 2022.

Bartow County’s initial jobless claims fell from 636 to 321 over the month. There were 356 this time last year.

Gordon County was down from 504 to 423 over the month. That is also down from 567 in December of 2022.

The 161 claims filed in Chattooga County were down from 340 in November and 401 this time last year.

Polk County had 147 claims last month, down from 329 in November and 140 in December of 2022.
