The Salvation Army at 317 East First Avenue is operating a warming shelter for those who need refuge from the bitterly cold weather.
Garden Lakes Baptist Church is also open as an overnight warming shelter on Tuesday and Wednesday night from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m.
Other warming shelters include:
-The Davies men’s shelter. Please call (706) 512-1152
-The Davies women’s shelter. Please call (706) 802-6300
-The Fielder Center at 1598 East 16th Street from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
-Renovation Church at 13 Redmond Court from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
-Westminster Presbyterian Church at 1941 Shorter Avenue (open Friday and Saturday from 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
Warming shelter also opening in Gordon County
Grace Church located at 401 Peters Street in Calhoun has reached out to Gordon County Emergency Management to offer their gym as a warming station/temporary shelter to those who may need somewhere to go to get out of the nighttime cold.
This location will supply a heated space along with somewhere to sit down, relax, and stay warm
overnight. Hot food and hot drinks will also be made available. This temporary shelter will be open Tuesday through Saturday night from 10 p.m. until 9 a.m.
The listed times of operation must be adhered to.
All those who seek shelter at this location will be expected to respect the location, the volunteers, and others who seek shelter there. Anyone who cannot act accordingly or who damages the property will be asked to leave.
This is a community outreach by Grace Church to help some of our most vulnerable populations.
Volunteers are welcome to come and assist with this effort. Also, if anyone would like to make a
