First-time claims for unemployment insurance in the Rome area saw a sharp increase in November.
According to the Georgia Department of Labor, there were 553 claims filed last month, up 245% from the 156 filed in October.
The number is up by 54% when compared to the 360 initial claims filed in November of last year.
Similar trends were reported in surrounding counties.
Bartow County had 636 claims, up from 158 in October and 245 this time last year.
Gordon County reported 504 initial claims, up from 126 the month before, and 336 in November of 2022.
Chattooga County saw 340 first-time claims last month, up from 211 in October and 192 last year.
Polk County reported 329 claims. There were 121 in October and 197 in November of 2022.
Rome and Floyd County ended the month with 45,400 jobs, up from 45,100 in October and 44,000 in November of last year.
