Rome man, Walker County teacher killed in Chattooga County wreck

A Rome man and a Walker County teacher were killed in a two-vehicle crash in Chattooga County Friday.

The wreck occurred on Highway 27 near Scott Hill Road in the Gore area.

According to the Georgia State Patrol:

A 2006 Jeep Wrangler traveled across the grass median and into the northbound lanes, striking a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by Lori McWhorter, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Walker County School System’s Facebook page, McWhorter taught at LaFayette High School and was the school system’s 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year.

The driver of the Jeep, identified as David Lopez, was transported to a Rome hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
