First-time claims for unemployment insurance were down slightly in the Rome area from May to June.
According to the Georgia Department of Labor, there were 363 claims last month, down from 365 the month before.
There were 357 in June of last year.
Looking at surrounding counties:
There were 154 claims filed in Gordon County last month, up from 125 the month before.
The number of claims in Bartow County was down from 209 to 195 over the month.
Chattooga County was down from 295 to 215 and Polk County was down from 92 to 77.
The labor department also reported the number of jobs in the Rome area was up.
Employment was at 44,700 for June, up by 2,900 from 41,800 in June of 2022 and up by 200 from May of this year.
