Georgia gas prices increased by six cents compared to a week ago.

Monday’s state average of $3.26 is still a penny less than last month and 94 cents less than this time last year.

It now costs an average of $48.90 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Drivers are now paying $14.10 less to fill up at the pump compared to a year ago.

Local averages Monday were $3.22 in Floyd County, $3.20 in Gordon County, and $3.19 in both Chattooga and Polk Counties.

The average in Bartow County was $3.30.

“Georgia pump prices increased after the 4th of July holiday,” said Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman. “Most likely due to higher demand amid decreasing supply. However, this could be more of a glitch than a trend, and demand may retreat once the holiday is further in the rearview mirror.”

The national average for a regular gallon of gasoline has remained stagnated since last Monday. It continues to hold steady at $3.53 compared to a week ago.
