A Wind Chill Warning has been issued as dangerously cold wind chills (-10 to -20 degrees) are expected this weekend in the following counties: Floyd, Gordon, Polk, Paulding, Bartow, and Chattooga. A wind chill warning has not been issued in Georgia in almost 5 years
. Saturday morning lows will be in the teens to single digits across all of North Georgia. Wind chill values Saturday morning will again fall near or below zero in and around Metro Atlanta, with negative teens again in the mountain counties. A slight “warming trend” will begin Sunday afternoon and continue through next week.
Here are some precautionary and preparatory actions to take this weekend:
• If you plan to travel by car over the coming days, keep your phone charged, pack extra clothes and blankets, and bring extra food and water in case you become stranded.
• Be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while driving.
• Bring your pets inside and provide adequate shelter for livestock.
• Leave your inside faucets dripping hot and cold water during prolonged periods where temperatures do not rise above freezing.
• Avoid outside activities if possible. If you have to go outside, dress warmly in coats, gloves, and hats.
