Man charged with vehicular homicide

A Rome man has been charged with 1st-degree vehicular homicide in connection with a fatal wreck that occurred back on April 22.

According to the arrest warrant, 50-year-old Joseph Patrick Hale was driving under the influence of narcotics on Highway 27 North near old Summerville Road when his vehicle crossed over into the other lanes, striking another vehicle head-on.

The driver of the other vehicle, 63-year-old Lou Anne Loggins of Summerville, died at the scene.

Hale is also charged with DUI, serious injury by vehicle, operation of a vehicle without a current license plate, concealing the identity of a vehicle, failure to maintain a lane, and driving without insurance.
