14th District Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has won her Republican Primary and will now face Democrat Marcus Flowers in November.
Flowers also won without the need for a runoff.
Greene received 8,532 votes in Floyd County. Her nearest challenger was Jennifer Strahan who had 3,150 votes.
Flowers received 1,935 votes in Floyd County. Wendy Davis finished second with 955 votes in the Democratic Primary
For State Senate in District 52, Chuck Hufstetler gets another term.
Hufstetler got 8,886 votes with Jeff Lewis finishing second with 1,365.
For State House, Katie Dempsey was re-elected in District 13 with 5,346 votes. Luke Martin finished second with 1,248.
For Floyd County Commission, Larry Maxey defeated Ronnie Kilgo to win another tern. Maxey with 7,625 votes to Kilgo’s 5,421.
Rome and Floyd County voters approved the extension of a penny sales tax for education.
4,050 city residents voted “Yes” while 1,279 voted “No.”
The E-SPLOST also passed with county residents by a margin of 7,078 to 4,234.
Statewide, it’ll be Herschel Walker, who won the Republican Primary for US Senate, against incumbent Raphael Warnock in the General Election.
Brian Kemp defeated David Perdue in the Republican Primary for Governor, setting up a rematch with Democrat Stacey Abrams.
Tuesday’s primary was the first for a new election board and elections supervisor.
According to board chair Jerry Lee, overall, it was a good day.
“I’m just really proud of, first of all, our poll workers,” he said. “They did an awesome job. Of course, our elections staff and our board, but most importantly, the citizens of Rome and Floyd County come out to vote. We had over half our citizens who were eligible to get out and cast their ballots.”
The returns were counted by around 10:30 and Floyd County was not the last county in the state to report.
