An auto accident taking place Thursday morning on Highway 278, near County Road 753 in Cherokee County, led to the death of a Buford, Georgia woman.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Christine Ki Yoon, age 62, was a passenger in a 2018 Toyota Camry that struck a tree in the roadway – in turn causing the car to leave the road.  Both she and the driver, 65-year-old Scott Moon Soo Yoon, also of Buford, were taken to Gadsden Regional Hospital, where she passed away due to her injuries.  No information regarding the condition of Mr. Yoon has been released.

The accident report stated that the incident occurred approximately six miles east of Piedmont, at 5:20 am; there were also reports of another vehicle being involved in an accident nearby at about the same time, possibly due to the initial wreck.  No one was apparently injured in the second vehicle.

Numerous trees had been reported down, due to high winds and saturated ground, as a result of strong storms barreling through the area around midnight.

The accident remains under investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division.
