A former Summerville Police Department employee was sentenced to 20 years with 4 years in confinement and the remainder on probation for diverting funds from the Santa in Uniform organization in Chattooga County Superior Court on Wednesday.

Prosecutors say that the thefts began in 2010 and continued until they were discovered in 2017.  Stacy Fountain was charged with diverting the funds for her own personal use. Fountain was also accused of diverting funds from the Drug Forfeiture account of the police department.  She was indicted on four counts of theft by taking, two counts of theft by conversion, and one count of violation of oath by a public officer.

Fountain was suspended from the police department and subsequently resigned from her position.  The GBI was called in to handle the investigation into the missing funds.

Because of the association with local law enforcement, the Lookout Mountain District Attorney’s office recused themselves from prosecuting the case.  The case was prosecuted by the Floyd County District Attorney’s Office.
