Man accused of traveling to Floyd County for sex acts with a ‘minor’
A Newnan, Georgia man was booked into the Floyd County Jail Tuesday on a felony charge of criminal attempt to commit aggravated child molestation.
According to jail records:
44-year old Christopher Michael Welcher traveled from Coweta County to Floyd County to meet someone he believed to be under the age of 16 for sex acts.
He also engaged in a graphic online conversation with the person, according to police.
Welcher is additionally charged with obscene internet contact with a child and using a computer to entice a child.
Woman charged with fraudulently obtaining public housing
A 58-year-old Rome woman has been released on bond following her arrest Tuesday on a felony charge of fraudulently obtaining or attempting to obtain public housing.
According to an arrest warrant:
Susan Darnette Ayers got a rental charge reduction of $44,844 by failing to disclose that another adult was living in the Northwest Georgia Housing Authority unit at 121 East 14th Street.
The other person stayed at the unit between October 20, 2019, and February 1 of this year.
