-News Release-

The Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home will host the 12th Annual Floyd County Seed Swap from 1 to 3 p.m., March 2.
Associate Professor Brian Campbell of Berry College’s Department of Environmental Science and Studies will provide a presentation on seed-saving and agricultural biodiversity conservation at 1 p.m. Throughout the event, Campbell, Berry students and Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions and discuss seed saving.
Participants are encouraged to bring any type of seeds, including plant cuttings, seedlings, saplings or other gardening-related items to share with others. The Seed Swap encourages the production and protection of heirloom seeds and plant varieties. These seeds are at risk of being lost to provide a sustainable landscape in our community.
The 12th Annual Seed Swap is an event co-sponsored by the museum, the Berry Department of Environmental Science and Studies and the Floyd County Master Gardener Extension Volunteers.
The Chieftains Museum, which used to be the home of Cherokee leader Major Ridge, is a national historic landmark. It is one of the few private entities to be certified on the Trail of Tears. The museum will be open for a Family Free Day in conjunction with the Seed Swap, and visitors can tour the museum.
The Annual Floyd County Seed Swap is a free event open to the public.
