Floyd County Board of Education meets Monday

The Floyd County Board of Education will elect a chair and vice chair when they meet Monday.

Other agenda items include hearing dates regarding House Bill 581. Under the law, assessments on homesteaded properties cannot rise greater than the rate of inflation.  New homes and sold properties can increase at more than the rate of inflation. It also establishes automatic homestead tax exemptions for school system levies across the state, but it gives taxing authorities the option to opt out.

The HB581 Hearing dates are:

January 15, 2025, at 6:00 pm
January 22, 202,5 at 2:00pm
January 29, 202,5 at 2:00 pm

All hearings will be held at the Floyd County Board of Education. 

Also Monday, Title I Distinguished and Reward Schools will be recognized and the board will set driver’s education dates for 2025.

There are three options for driver’s ed:

A. Thirty-hour classroom and 6 hours behind-the-wheel instruction ($300.00)

B. Thirty-hour classroom instruction only ($125.00)

C. Six hours behind the wheel instruction only ($225.00)

Classroom taught at Pepperell High School

May 29, May 30, May 31, & June 2 (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, & Monday)

Driving for classroom students will begin Tuesday, June 3.

Driving could begin as early as Thursday, May 29 for students not enrolled in the classroom.

The end date will be determined by the number of students who sign up for the appropriate program
option.

Monday’s school board meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Floyd County School System Central Office.

The caucus will start at 5 p.m.
