Woman charged with burglary

Charges have been filed in a burglary that occurred back on May 17 on Leafmore Road in Rome.

According to an arrest warrant:

23-year-old Iyona Emoni Brooks of Cartersville entered the residence and stole various items valued at $1,699.

Brooks is charged with 1st-degree burglary, felony theft by taking, and criminal trespass.

Woman facing child cruelty charges

A Silver Creek woman has been arrested on five counts of 2nd-degree cruelty to children.

According to an arrest warrant and Floyd County Jail records:

34-year-old Candace Nicole Mims deprived four children of safe and sanitary conditions by having no running water and an open sewage line at the rear of her house on Nelson Street.

There was only one mattress for the children to sleep on, and a window was missing.

Additionally, there was garbage piled on the front porch and around the house.

Meanwhile, 56-year-old Dori Shilene Jackson, also of Silver Creek, was arrested on a felony count of hindering apprehension.

According to that arrest warrant:

Jackson helped Mims hide in her Reecebburg Road home and then fled with Mims to Alabama where they obtained residency.

Report: Woman found with four ounces of meth

A 53-year-old Rome woman has been arrested on a methamphetamine trafficking charge.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Margaret Ann Williams was found with four ounces of meth at a location on Cave Spring Street.

She was also in possession of smoking devices and a small amount of marijuana.

Williams is additionally charged with possession of meth, possession of meth with the intent to distribute, possession of drug-related objects, and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

Report: Man found with meth on school grounds

A Kingston man is facing charges after he was found with drugs while on the property of Johnson Elementary School on Morrison Campground Road.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

39-year-old Michael Van Causey had a white, crystal substance which he stated was meth.

He is charged with possession of meth and possession of drugs on school grounds.

Man facing multiple misdemeanor charges

A Morrison Campground Road man is facing a long list of misdemeanor charges following an incident in Downtown Rome back on June 13.

According to Floyd County Jail records and an arrest warrant:

49-year-old Daniel Johnson Fortenberry was spotted by police driving the wrong way on West First Street, without valid registration.

Fortenberry accelerated to a high rate when the officer activated his blue lights and siren.

Fortenberry then drove around stopped traffic and ran a red light before abandoning the vehicle behind a church and fleeing on foot.

The vehicle had blown tires due to Fortenberry driving onto the curb while speeding down East Second Avenue.

He is charged with failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, reckless driving, driving the wrong way on a one way road, obstruction of officers, failure to obey a traffic control device, failure to maintain a lane, too fast for conditions, driving without valid registration, a license plate violation, driving with a suspended or revoked license, driving without insurance, and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

He was also arrested on a felony bench warrant for failure to appear in court.
