[VIDEO] Hurricane Helene brings flooding, road closures, and power outages to Floyd County

Rome and Floyd County were hit with significant rainfall after the tropical storm from Hurricane Helene passed through the area on Friday morning.

The Floyd County Emergency Operations Center reported 9 inches of rain associated with the storm. Floyd County 911 received numerous calls regarding downed trees, flooded roadways, non-functioning traffic lights, and widespread power outages, with more than a thousand customers affected in West Rome.

Severe flooding submerged multiple vehicles and yards at the intersection of Center Street and Excelsior Street in West Rome (Unrelated: Multiple gunshots were heard when we were reporting in that area).

Other affected areas included Paris Drive near Conn Street, West 11th Street near Avenue B, and parts of Shannon and Highway 53 (video contributed by David Crowder, and photo of Autry Road by Darren Carter).
