It is not too early to begin ordering for the Knights of Columbus annual Labor Day Barbecue which is coming up on September 2 at the Rome Civic Center.

According to Chris Lewis with the Knights of Columbus, there will be old favorites and something new this year.

“Barbecued pork, barbecued beef, Brunswick stew, half chickens, half racks of ribs, and baked beans, but this year, the new item that we’re adding is Pork Carnitas,” he said.  “That’s a slow-cooked pork shoulder that’s nice and juicy. We’ve got some corn tortillas with it, so there’s a little bit an international flavor.  Those plates will be $12 along with our other plates of barbecue pork, barbecue beef plates, and chicken plates–those are also all $12.”

Online preorders have begun for bulk carryout-only sales, according to Justin Gervais.

Try to order those online prior, that way we won’t run out of it,” he said. “If you go the day of, there’s a possibility we could run out with the bulk orders. They are $12 a pound. A half rack of ribs is $17 and a quart of beans is nine dollars.”

You can order now through Aug. 31 by going to the secure website at www.romebbq.com

This is the 56th year for the Labor Day Barbecue.

During the previous 55 years, more than $300,000 had been raised for local charities.
