Officer-involved shooting in Calhoun

At the request of the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office, GBI agents are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Calhoun, GA. Michelle Ralstons, age 55, of Calhoun, GA was shot and injured in the incident. No deputies were injured in this incident.

On August 16, 2024, at about 12:00 a.m., deputies with the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Erwin Hill Church Road, Calhoun, GA, in reference to a domestic dispute. Officers met with the 911 caller at a separate location prior to traveling to the home. The 911 caller informed deputies that Ralstons, who was in the home, may have a gun. When officers arrived at the home, they attempted to talk Ralstons into leaving the home peacefully. During the incident, Ralstons was shot by a deputy. Ralstons then surrendered to deputies. Deputies gave Ralstons medical treatment on scene before she was taken to a local hospital for a non-life-threatening injury.

The Sheriff’s deputies found a gun in the home.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Gordon County District Attorney’s Office for review.
