Alabama man charged in January crash that claimed the life of a Rome woman

Charges have been filed in a fatal crash that occurred in January of this year.

According to an arrest warrant:

A Ram 5500 truck driven by 21-year-old William David Frier Jr. of Centre, Alabama ran a red light at Cedartown Highway and Walker Mountain Road and struck a GMC Yukon.

A passenger in the Yukon, 59-year-old Denise Howell of Rome, was killed.

The driver of the Yukon, 37-year-old George W. Fowler of Rome, and two other passengers, 59-year-old Joe Howell, and 61-year-old Jim Howell, were injured in the crash.

Frier is charged with misdemeanor counts of 2nd-degree homicide by vehicle and failure to obey a traffic control device.

He turned himself in at the Floyd County Jail on Monday and has been released on bond.
