Gordon County Sheriff’s Office –

Gordon County Sheriff Mitch Ralston reports that an arrest has been made in connection with a domestic violence incident that included the discovery of an explosive device:

“On January 11, 2024, deputy sheriffs were dispatched to 3102 Red Bud Road in response to a report of a violent domestic disturbance. The deputies located the victim who reported that she’d been assaulted by her male partner. The male partner, Dillon Wayne Long, could not be located at that time but warrants were issued for his arrest as he remained at large.

On the evening of January 17, deputies were dispatched to a residence on Pleasant Hill Road regarding an explosive device. The device was located and rendered safe by a Bomb Unit from Floyd County at the request of the Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives determined that the device was linked to Long and the investigation continued, focusing on him. Gordon County detectives, with the assistance of metro Atlanta area authorities, tracked Long until he returned to the Gordon County area.

At about 3 pm (on January 18th), Gordon County deputies apprehended Long in a coordinated traffic stop on US Highway 41 South. He was arrested without incident and lodged in jail.

Long has been charged with Possession/Receiving/Transporting an Explosive Device, Manufacturing an Explosive Device, Battery (Family Violence), Cruelty to Children (3rd Degree), and Violation of Probation.

At the time of his arrest, Long was serving a probation sentence for a 2019 Burglary conviction.”
