Three neurosurgeons sign deal with AdventHealth, new cardiology locations announced

A group of three neurosurgeons signed contracts committing to provide neurosurgical care at AdventHealth Redmond. 

According to a news release from AdventHealth Redmond, those physicians are Dr. John A. Cowan, Dr. Jason Harrison, and Dr. Alex Whitaker-Lea, who combined have nearly 25 years of experience in providing neurosurgical care to patients across Northwest Georgia and East Alabama. 

“We are proud of our legacy of providing world-class health care,” said Isaac Sendros, president and CEO of AdventHealth Redmond. “Adding these neurosurgeons to our team of skilled providers will allow AdventHealth Redmond to expand our advanced care and better serve our patients.”

AdventHealth Medical Group Neurosurgery at Rome is scheduled to open in September at 15 John Maddox Drive.

John Cowan, MD, obtained his medical degree at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD, and completed his neurosurgery residency at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.

Jason Harrison, MD, Ph.D., obtained his medical degree at the University of South Alabama in Mobile. He completed his neurosurgery residency at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He also earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in basic medical sciences.

Alex Whitaker-Lea, MD, obtained her medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Regents University in Athens. She completed her residency at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.

The three neurosurgeons come from Harbin Clinic.

Last month it was announced that ten Harbin Clinic cardiologists were moving to AdventHealth, which has announced the July opening of Advent Medical Group Cardiology and Cardiac Electrophysiology.

AdventHealth Medical Group has announced the opening of two new locations in Rome and one location in Calhoun, opening in July.

  • AdventHealth Medical Group Cardiology at Rome will be located at 7 John Maddox Drive.
  • AdventHealth Medical Group Cardiac Electrophysiology at Rome will be located at 100 John Maddox Drive.
  • AdventHealth Medical Group Cardiology at Calhoun will be located at 109 Hospital Drive.

Cardiologists joining AdventHealth Medical Group Cardiology at Rome are Chas Jackson, MD; Chris Merritt, MD; G. Hunter Myers, MD; Himanshu Patel, MD; Kipp Slicker, DO, FACC; G. Justin Tanner, MD; and J. Michael Ware, MD, FACC. Robert Styperek, MD, FHRS, FACC will be seeing patients at AdventHealth Medical Group Cardiac Electrophysiology at Rome. Serving patients at AdventHealth Medical Group Cardiology Calhoun are Spencer Maddox, MD, and Andrew McCue, MD.
