NASCAR returned to Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday, and one of the drivers was in Rome on Friday.
Ross Chastain, driver of the #1 AdventHealth Chevy for Trackhouse Racing, was at AdventHealth Redmond to visit with frontline staff and members of the community.
It was a particularly special occasion for one young fan.
Thiago Guzman is just six years old and is a double liver transplant recipient.
He got to help Chastain unveil the show car, which had an extra surprise — Thiago’s name.
In addition to having his name on the car, Thiago and his family were Chastain’s special guests for Sunday’s race.
The family also got to participate in a tradition of Chastain’s — the watermelon smash.
In addition to being a driver in the NASCAR Cup Series, the Alva, Florida native is an 8th-generation watermelon farmer. He celebrates each race win by smashing a watermelon.
Chastain was leading the race at one point but ended up finishing 13th.
