WRGA Staff Reports –
29-year-old fugitive Dalton Lee Potter of Leakey Texas has been indicted in Gordon County.
Back on September 7th of 2020, Potter was pulled over on I-75 near the Whitfield-Gordon County line after a license plate scanner detected a trailer that had been stolen from Chattanooga.
During the traffic stop, Potter fired multiple shots at the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Deputy and then fled South on I-75 where he wrecked the vehicle and escaped into a wooded area on foot. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation revealed that Potter had explosives in the stolen trailer. The GBI’s bomb disposal unit disposed of the explosives.
On September 9th, 2020, Potter was taken into custody without incident after a large manhunt.
Potter had apparently received a head injury in a shootout with another person after he invaded a home near Bandy Lake in Resaca. Potter was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released back into the custody of the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office.
Potter was indicted by a Gordon County Grand Jury on January 5th for four counts of criminal attempt to commit murder, aggravated assault, hijacking a motor vehicle, three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Potter was already wanted in Georgia for five counts of aggravated assault, and in Texas for charges of larceny and theft of more than $2,500.
