Updated: Flood Relief Efforts underway in Chattooga

Flooding in Summerville (WZQZ Radio)

With reports of over 14 inches of rainfall in the Summerville area on Sunday, flooding has affected hundreds of homes and businesses, and repair and relief efforts are underway.

The Raccoon Creek water treatment plant sustained heavy damage during the flooding.

Mohawk has loaned fans to the City of Summerville to attempt to dry the electric valves inside the plant and work continues on the pumps located inside the main building.

One of the three raw water pumps is now operable.

Installation is in progress for the VFD that controls the high-service pumps that pump water into the distribution system.

The water in the clear wells is being drained, and the clear well will be cleaned.

Summerville water customers have access to a water tanker that is located across from the Summerville Fire Department on Cox Street.

You must bring your own containers.

The water in the tanker and the water buffalo will be available 24 hours a day.

Chattooga County Schools announced they are going to be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

Trion City Schools currently plan to be open on Tuesday as there are no water issues at the school.

Chattooga Magistrate Court will be closed until further notice.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has declared a State of Emergency in Chattooga and Floyd Counties, clearing the way for assistance from state agencies.
