STAFF REPORTS

An elderly woman was killed in a wreck on Highway 27 North Tuesday evening.

According to Floyd County Police, at around 5:35 p.m., a lookout was issued for a vehicle that was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes near Highway 156.

About three minutes later, that vehicle sideswiped a Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office vehicle before coming to a stop, still on the wrong side of the road.

It was then struck by a Ford Flex driven by Crystal Morris of Lafayette.

The driver of the wrong-way vehicle, identified as 87-year-old Annie Vivian Millican of Trion, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Morris was transported to Atrium Health Floyd with serious injuries.

The driver of the Chattooga SO vehicle, 34-year-old Marvin Armstrong, and two passengers, 29-year-old Katelyn McKee, and a seven-year-old child were not injured.

Police say the heavy rain in the area at the time of the crash made it difficult for the other motorists to see the oncoming vehicle.
