CHEROKEE COUNTY, ALABAMA SHERIFF’S OFFICE

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, deputies conducted traffic safety checkpoints and performed saturated patrols in several communities Friday afternoon and evening. The focus this weekend was on north-end communities, including Boomtown, Berea, Blanche, and McCord’s Crossroads. Four arrests were made as a result of the operation.

According to Chief Deputy Josh Summerford, Floyd County Police pursued a vehicle into Cherokee County on Friday evening resulting in the arrest of two individuals. James Amos, 52 of Kennesaw, and Bobbie Colston, 41 of Dallas, were arrested when the pursuit ended on County Road 101 near the state line. The driver, Amos, led Floyd County Police into Alabama on County Road 22 in the Mud Creek area and then traveled through Spring Garden and back into the McCord’s Crossroads Community. Cherokee County deputies were able to assist by deploying spike sticks in two different locations. During the pursuit, the driver ran three vehicles off the roadway. The offender was driving on three rims and one tire when the pursuit came to an end.

Amos was charged with attempting to elude reckless endangerment. Colston was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Both were transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center and both will face charges in Floyd County upon their release.

Sheriff Shaver said, “we are able to conduct these extra patrols to keep our County safe because of diligence in obtaining grants from ADECA.”
