FLOYD COUNTY EMA/NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
A Heat Advisory is in effect today from 11 am – 8 pm for most of north and central Georgia (excluding the northeast Georgia mountains).
For more details, please see below.
HEAT THREAT:
· Widespread high temperatures in the upper 90s to 100 are expected for most of the forecast. Factor this in with relatively high humidity and we can expect dangerous conditions with Heat Index values (apparent temperatures/what it feels like outside) maxing out between 105-110F degrees. This will create some problems for folks that are more sensitive/vulnerable to the warmer temperatures.
STORM THREAT:
· There is lower confidence today that the area will be impacted by strong to severe storms, but can’t rule it out for this late afternoon into the evening hours primarily around the I-85 & I-20 corridors.
· Isolated damaging winds and large hail will be the primary concern, along with brief heavy rain, and frequent lightning.
o With any storms, the movement would be from the northeast or east which is not a typical storm motion. This is due to the position of the upper high over the area and the upper-level winds that rotate “clockwise” around it.
