FLOYD COUNTY POLICE: Floyd County PD responded with other emergency personnel to 4617 Old Dalton Rd at around 9 am today in reference to an accident at a construction site.

Upon arrival, rescuers found two with significant injuries who were later pronounced dead by Floyd County Deputy Coroner John Hamilton.

Initial reports indicate a flatbed truck was being loaded with asphalt at the top of a steep hill. At some point, the brakes are suspected of failing and the truck rolled forward.

While the truck was being loaded up the hill a small excavator was traveling downhill with a flagger on foot providing assistance. That bobcat and flagger were struck by the truck.

Both men in the Bobcat were killed.

They are identified as 21-year-old John Hunter Lane of Kingston and 19-year-old Cody Hauser of Cartersville.

The driver of the truck, Samuel Hancock, was airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.

Another man in the truck, Albert Starr, was transported by ambulance to Atrium Health Floyd.

The construction site was being operated by KGI from Armuchee. OSHA is investigating the incident.
