Arrest made in death of a man whose body was found in a toolbox in Polk County, ‘person of interest’ sought

CHEROKEE COUNTY, ALABAMA SHERIFF

An arrest has been made in the murder of a man whose body was found in a large toolbox in Polk County in March.

28-year-old Eric K. Hooper, 28 of Centre is in the Cherokee County, Alabama Detention Center on a $1.5 million bond.

He has been in jail there since April 14, after being extradited from Polk County.

According to Cherokee County, Alabama Sheriff Jeff Shaver, Polk County road crew workers discovered the body of 40-year-old Lachancey Williams along Esom Hill Road on March 15th. 

According to the sheriff, the homicide actually occurred just outside of Centre.

Authorities are also seeking a person of interest, identified as 38-year-old Nick Silvers, who is also a resident of Cherokee County.
