The forecast suggests we can expect strong winds and possible heavy rain associated with this storm which is capable of causing flash flooding of roadways and downed trees and powerlines overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning.
Please use extreme caution when driving on the roadways in the early morning hours either going to school or work. As always please share this information with your employees, staff, family, students, family, and friends to ensure they remain weather aware of our changing weather conditions. The weather projected for our area can be viewed below in the body of this email.
A strong frontal system will bring the chance for isolated strong to severe thunderstorms mainly Wednesday night into Thursday. There is still uncertainty about how much energy is available Wednesday night, which could alter the chances for strong to severe occurring though there is greater certainty in the heavy rainfall. Strong gradient winds ahead of the front are expected Wednesday afternoon into the overnight as well.
Late Wednesday/Thursday Morning:
- There is a Slight Risk (2 out of 5) of severe weather for portions of north and west Georgia, and a Marginal Risk (1 out of 5) for severe weather farther east. An Enhanced Risk (3 out of 5) is barely clipping parts of the west.
- Strong to severe thunderstorms with primary threats of:
o Damaging wind gusts
o Brief tornadoes
o Heavy rainfall could lead to localized flooding concerns in low-lying areas and in areas with poor drainage
- Gusty winds are possible Wednesday afternoon into overnight ahead of the front (see graphic below)
- Sustained winds of 15-20 mph gusting to 25-30 mph at times are possible.
- Higher elevations in northern mountains could see stronger winds.
- A Wind Advisory could be warranted in future updates.
Thursday:
- The Slight Risk and Marginal Risk are shifted farther south and east given the progression of the front during the morning and into the afternoon.
- Strong to severe thunderstorms with primary threats of:
o Damaging wind gusts
o Heavy rainfall could lead to localized flooding concerns in low-lying areas and in areas with poor drainage
