Man convicted in Menlo arson

A 37-year old man has been found guilty of setting a house fire that occurred in Menlo back in August.

Robert Swearinger was found guilty in Chattooga County Superior Court on charges of 1st-degree arson, criminal damage to property, aggravated cruelty to animals, and family violence.

He was then handed a 20-year prison sentence.

According to Georgia Insurance and Fire Safety Commissioner John King, Swearinger started a fire in the basement of a residence on Riverhaven Lane while four other occupants were at home.

Commissioner King’s Fire Investigations Unit assisted the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office with this investigation.
