Fatal fire in Cherokee County, Alabama

A fatal mobile home fire is under investigation in Centre.

Firefighters with the Centre, Spring Creek and Cedar Bluff Fire Departments responded to the location on County Road 69 near County Road 148 just after 1:00 p.m. Saturday, firefighters arrived on the scene to find a mobile home fully engulfed in flames.

Moments later, Centre Fire Chief Jeremy Lee requested the response of the Coroner’s Office and the State Fire Marshall’s Office in addition to Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Investigators.

Cherokee County Coroner Paul McDonald confirmed one person died in the fire. Chief Deputy Josh Summerford said that one person was able to make it out safely. 

Summerford said that the fire is currently under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Sheriff’s Office. No additional information is being released at this time.
