First-time unemployment claims decrease in June

Initial claims for unemployment insurance were down in the Rome area last month.

According to the Georgia Department of Labor, there were 768 first-time claims reported in Floyd County in June.  That is down from 799 in May.

Surrounding counties also saw a decline over the month.

Bartow County was down from 1,001 to 750, Gordon County went from 531 to 387, Polk County declined from 309 to 295, and Chattooga County was down from 162 to 117.

The Rome area lost 200 jobs from May to June.

However, the 40,400 jobs are 1,400 more than we saw in June of last year.
