16 holiday traffic deaths, none in Northwest Georgia

GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY

The Georgia Department of Public Safety is reporting that 16 people lost their lives on the state’s highways during the Independence Day holiday travel period.

Fatal wrecks were investigated by the Georgia State Patrol Post 17 in Washington, Post 36 in Douglas, Post 40 in Albany, Post 6 in Gainesville, Post 8 in Madison, Post 11 in Hinesville, Post 22 in Waycross, Post 23 in Brunswick, and Post 52 in Hartwell, as well as DeKalb County Police, Cobb County Police, Atlanta Police, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, and Fulton County Police.

Clayton County Police investigated two fatalities in separate crashes,

This year, the holiday travel period was 54 hours long.  It began at 6 p.m. on Friday and ended at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday.
