GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH
It has been a year since we saw our first COVID-19 cases in Northwest Georgia.
Dr. Gary Voccio, health director for the 10-county Georgia Department of Public Health Northwest Health District said although we are still in the midst of the pandemic, our numbers are declining.
Dr. Voccio also gave a vaccine update saying 16% of the population in the Northwest Health District has been vaccinated and 8% statewide.
He added we are vaccinating the most vulnerable.
Approximately 80 percent of residents of long-term care facilities have been vaccinated.
Dr. Voccio feels this is why we are seeing a decline in emergency room visits, hospitalizations and deaths.
